'Somewhere, Under The Radar' reviews our album...and gives excellent quote!

Rattlebag Radio's Ian Thistlethwaite gives excellent quote, both in quality and quantity, in his review of our album.

A particular favourite is this one:

"Owen Tingle (nee J) evidently shares Helen’s love of carefully chosen, barbed words, as is gleefully displayed in “Forest Of Cocks”, a spoken word  delivery over a sparse electronic soundscape which sounds simultaneously retro and futuristic, and his delivery is reminiscent of a sordid Vivian Stanshall."

[though Owen would like to clarify that Helên wrote most of the words to the track, except the unforgettable line, 'when they opened up his heart, they found it was full of urine'.]

But back to the review. Ian compares our music quite favourably with that of a number of Owen's music heroes:

"..there is evidently deliberate reference and respect for people such as Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Vince Clarke, Soft Cell, etc."

Ian then goes on to consider how humour and music fits together, with particular reference to our music. It's quite an interesting write, but we won't spoil it by cutting and pasting the whole lot here. Go and read it yourself.

Not only has Mr Thistlethwaite been good enough to listen to, then review our album, he's also given us some more airplay via his show on Mixlr. Ian has kindly posted the show on mixcloud too, so you can listen via the widget below. This edition includes our track '365'  as well as one by our friend and label mate Seedhill Bruiser.  This is a VERY eclectic mix, so expect some shouty punk, slinky synth and every musical genre in between. Many, many thanks to Ian for all your support. xx

What's big and red and throbbing? The shadow of the Kremlin...

Click play on the widget above and read on....
Lovely Fiona Ledgard , who seems to have been in more bands than you can shake a stick at, was kind enough to play one of our tracks on her show on Thursday. Probably if you were to shake a stick at Fiona she would say, "That sounds groovy, let's form a band wifi!" or do I mean mofo? Anyroad up, she is very busy, creative and musical.
This week, despite protestations from her guests, some of whom claimed to be fans of Celine Dion and Michael Bublé, Fiona DID play our track, 'Why Can't You Write Something Nice For A Change?'

Fiona's band ILL have a new track, Kremlin, out now, which they discuss during the show. They'll also be performing at Ruby Lounge, Manchester on Saturday along with Gum Takes Tooth, Klaus Kinski, Luminous Bodies (ft. Terminal Cheesecake & Part Chimp members) & 2 Koi Karp. For ALL the details, listen to the mixcloud widget above, if you're not doing so already.

SEX!

Calm down, it's nothing to do with Madonna; it's a mix from Positronik's Captain Black.

Now, click 'play' on the widget above and listen to a louche and lusty sultry mix that was thrust onto our timeline in the early hours of Sunday morning. Grab a tissue, lie back, and enjoy the ride as your earlobes are lubricated with all things LURVE, and sex of course. We're on there with our anatomically correct track Mammals. Stop sniggering at the back there! Arguably, things get a bit droopy at the end with Cilla and Paul McCartney, but we're open minded, and we do like Paul's first wife's sausages. Whatever floats yer boat. We don't judge.

Click 'play' on the widget above and listen while you read!

This week's Synthopia was another super selection from Skerat which included Gabdnah S'etutitsôrp from our recent 'Mirror Writing' EP

Not surprisingly, we're in good musical company again as this show includes tracks from Jonteknik; Vile Electrodes; Naked Lunch and a new band to us, Uncles of Wise to name but four. It's all good though, of course! Please also listen out for Under My Skin (a Tenek cover version) by The Last Cry which is on the Tenek Vs The Last Cry EP in aid of The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
You can read more about the EP here.

Synthopia's new time and online home (Mixlr) is working out really well for the show. We've joined in with the chat during live broadcasts. This is a great way to connect with other music fans and many of the musicians that are featured in the show, which currently airs at 11pm (BST UK) but will be 10pm when the clocks go back to GMT. Because this is the worldwide web, and we all seem to be at the mercy of various daylight savings schemes, we recommend joining the Synthopia Facebook Group if you want to keep up to speed with the details of upcoming broadcasts.

Here's the intro. to the show from host Andrew Skerat Kennedy, plus the playlist and links to the bands, as compiled by Andrew, so that you can support the artists.

The Be Reet Radio Show 30th September 2013

Some reet daft ravelling from Tony Thornborough and Steve Nicholson on this show, which is very entertaining before you even get to the music. Talk of vajazzles was quickly diverted by a nifty segway into out track 'Prostitute's Handbag' which is surely a case of out of the frying pan and into another frying pan...

Listen out too for our pal Ste McCabe who does withering scouse sarcasm like no other, especially on the track played on this show. Aside from that there's some old classics, new demos and even a spot of star gazing with the horoscopes section... Aside from that, it's all good, apart from the track 'Chunder In The Old Pacific' by Barry Croker and Pete Best which is fucking terrible.

But don't let that put you off - it's a very entertaining show which includes some of the best local music from, Manchester, Salford and surrounding environs, so can't be bad. Thanks Tony and Steve!
